ONLINE & PHONE COUNSELLING

Online counselling sessions are by video conferencing. I use Zoom because it is user-friendly and secure when BACP guidelines are followed. I have completed additional training in online work with the Open University and the Online Therapy Institute.

Working online offers flexibility for clients who work shifts or who might have difficulty fitting in a session around childcare responsibilities. (I’m available 8am to 7pm Monday – Thursday). Clients with additional mobility needs may find it easier to work with me from home

Here are some points to bear in mind:

  • You need somewhere private, where you won’t be overheard or interrupted by family members, pets or visitors.
  • You may find the process of communicating from your own space helpful in itself. Some clients say they actually find it easier to talk when they’re not in the same room as their therapist.
  • I can offer you more flexibility online, for example if you have to travel to a different location, you’ll still be able to continue with your sessions.
  • It may feel strange to work without the cues from being in the same room and so it could be harder to say exactly what you mean. In direct face-to-face communication we pick up information from facial expressions, voice tone and body language, which may be less obvious when working online.
  • You may find yourself exploring things that you wouldn’t feel able to say when we’re together in person. This might lead to unexpectedly heightened emotional responses during the session and afterwards. I’ll talk to you about how to manage this.
